Employee referral software is programming that allows human resources management (HRM) team members to collect recommendations from current employees when there is a job opening.

Referrals are a good channel for new talent. Since employees often recommend people like themselves, referral candidates from good employees are likely to be talented as well. The downside to this approach as a primary means of recruitment is that it can limit workforce diversity.

HR managers have a number of employee referral software vendors to choose from, including Zao, Newton Software, GooodJob and Jobvite. While referral technology has typically been the realm of niche vendors in the past, the function is gradually being incorporated into larger human capital management (HCM) platforms.
