Kronos Inc. is a provider of workforce management software and associated services headquartered in Chelmsford, Mass. Founded in 1977, the company was originally a time clock manufacturer, getting its name from chronos, the ancient Greek word for time. While time clocks are still a staple of Kronos' business, over the years, the company has shifted its focus to workforce-related software.

Kronos' portfolio includes products for time and attendance, scheduling, core HR and payroll. It offers two versions of most offerings -- Workforce Ready for small to mid-size businesses (SMBs) and Workforce Central for enterprise organizations. According to the company website, Kronos has tens of thousands of customers, including more than half of the Fortune 1000. Customers include Briggs & Stratton, Clemson University, and the city of Orlando.

In recent years, Kronos has made significant strides to add mobile capabilities to its workforce management portfolio. Products in its Workforce Mobile suite can be used by both employees and managers and are compatible with a range of smartphones and tablet computers.
