BetterWorks is cloud-based human capital management software that allows employees to create Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and link them to organizational goals. Managers and employees establish goals in BetterWorks and then track them in real time over the course of a quarter or a year, while keeping the goals aligned with their team, manager and organization.
With a BetterWorks dashboard, employees can see each other's goals and send each other "a cheer" or a "nudge" depending on progress, and managers can check in on whether goals are advancing. To make an organization more open and transparent, everyone can see what is happening with goals across the company. BetterWorks provides visuals such as bar graphs to provide updates on what percentage of a goal is complete. Employees also receive "goal trees" that bloom or wither based on progress of goals.
A module in BetterWorks facilitates conversations between managers and employees on goals and priorities. Managers can provide coaching if an employee is lagging on a goal. Another module is aimed at improving an organization's strategic planning. It allows users to produce views of plans over multiple time periods with goals and action items to achieve the results.
The vendor, also called BetterWorks, was cofounded in 2013 by CEO Kris Duggan, the founder of Badgeville, a gamification company, and Di Wu, a former software developer at Palantir Technologies, a big data company, and is based in Redwood City, Calif. BetterWorks competes with other vendors that offer continuous performance management to supplement or replace performance management software that helps in managing annual or biannual reviews.
